THE ROMAN EMPIRE

A chronology of who ran the Roman Empire from the first Emperor, Augustus (Octavian), to the last, Romulus Augustulus. The first identified ruler of Rome was Romulus, who killed his twin brother Remus to become king. Rome was led by kings until about 750 BC when it became a republic. The republic lasted till 27 BC when Augustus became the first Emperor of the Roman Empire.
